David-355782 Posted May 9, 2023 Share Posted May 9, 2023 I have just purchased the two locos that came with the mixed freight set from around 2015? Both have issues with corners, and upon stripping I found the chassis has started expanding and cracking. Basically the chassis are disintergrating. I am wondering if this is a known fault with later Chinese chassis? I have a couple of uk made from the 80's and these are still as solid as the day they were made. threelink Posted June 21, 2023 Share Posted June 21, 2023 A well known problem with some of the earlier Chinese made locos. As 96RAF says, mazak rot is incurable. The only solution is a replacement chassis. Older British made chassis very rarely have this problem because better quality control was exercised over the alloy mix. I have just bought a second hand chassis off Peters Spares for £2.50 (I was building an 0-6-0 out of bits) so replacement at least is not expensive.
