The son of Triangman
Here's an interesting one, how about a Rainhill Trials Set, the main contenders plus rolling stock, an oval of fish bellied rail, and spectator stand?
LCDR
I think I mentioned this a few years back (although the rails and stand are a new idea), and I fully agree it would make a really novel and attractive gift set.The fish bellied rails might give some interesting manufacturing challenges especially if they included representation of stone block sleepers, but this might be overcome by reverting to a moulded solid ballast base. Short wheelbase stock might easily allow tighter curves thus the layout might be fitted into a smaller space. Possibly only open and closed carriages might be included, based on the replicas in the NRM, and the locos might even be tender drive which would mean only one type of power unit. The closed carriage was made by Tri-ang but the open carriage wasn't so it would give some variation in shape and colour. Is this something the NRM might be interested in going shares in, perhaps? I would certainly be interested in owning one!
malB
Be a bit difficult making Novelty a tender drive machine. As she's a [well] tank engine 😳 😮 😛.
walkingthedog
How about wagon drive then?
2e0dtoeric
I forget the name of it, but the one driven by the trotting horse would be a mechanical challenge!
malB
How about wagon drive then? You've obviously missed the clue there WTD. 😳..... With Novelty being a well tank. The tank is underneath the loco and possibly making her the worlds first tank too.....
walkingthedog
I wasn't looking for a clue, you said it couldn't be tender drive. I was making an alternative suggestion. 😆 I suppose it was a well tank. Eric I guess the loco would have to push the horses.
LCDR
Cyclopede.
The son of Triangman
With the modern micro motors we have today, it shouldn't be too hard to make the horse driven loco Cyclopede and Novelty.
The son of Triangman
The moving conveyor belt the horse was on could be driven, I'm sure someone here could make it work.
RedBill
Whilst I would love to see Hornby produce accurate and well detailed versions of the Rainhill trials locos, I would be more in favour of seeing a model of "Lion" as a LMR loco and not Titfield Thunderbolt!. The German firm Piko (pronounced Peco) produce a train set in HO of their very own first loco "Saxonia". The train is powered by a small motor inside one of the coches (mentioned earlier in thread) and leaves room for a very well detailed model of the loco (Saxonia) itself. Link below to Piko Saxonia. The vehicle immediately behind the loco, contains the motor. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Piko+Saxonia&rlz=1T4RVEB_enGB762GB762&tbm=isch&source=iu&ictx=1&fir=QVkkTQv-_dWSPM%253A%252CgI4daDovhigg4M%252C_&usg=__qNwBBcOM4d7nPCxolsMqv6pzyw8%3D&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjgpoXzitbYAhXjD8AKHZnWCK8Q9QEISTAF#imgrc=QVkkTQv-_dWSPM:
