Building your Baseboard

Modern ‘00’ scale track is not particularly suited to be pushed together and pulled apart on a regular basis such as the more durable plastic or wooden track associated with preschool train systems. Today’s modern ‘00’ track is designed to be in keeping with the finer scale model trains that make up the Hornby system.

With this in mind and to avoid damage it is recommended that the track be pinned as soon as possible into position on a suitable baseboard.

Having a baseboard will certainly allow for the development of a track circuit and with the addition of scenic accessories and buildings a model railway will quickly come to life. During this process those creating the layout will be exposed to the simple and learning pleasures of creating a model railway which can be the start of a hobby and a passion that has the potential of lasting a lifetime.
