Playtrains: so much more than just a toy

The Playtrains Toy

There is nothing more exciting than your first train set, from the first glimpse of the box as the wrapping paper is torn away to the very second the lid is removed, and the contents revealed. As the track is hastily put together and the train starts to travel around the track, so the imagination and excitements builds.

The new Hornby Playtrain system combines all the elements that are associated with a new and exciting toy train. Such features as remotely controlling the lights of the trains as well as a variety of sounds not to mention the three speed settings in both forward and reverse, plus the simplicity of assembling the track, makes this new system an exciting first step into the world of miniature railways.

Learn with Playtrains!

However, there is much more to Playtrains than first meets the eye. Without knowing it the keen young operator is being taught many of the basics of STEM - science, technology, engineering, mathematics, plus other life lessons.

What will we Discover?

Firstly, the young operator will discover about the geometry of the track and how the radius of the curves must match if an oval or circle is to be created. They will also learn that using a greater radius curve, as included in some of the Playtrain Track packs means that another oval can be placed outside of the train set track, with all being linked together by the use of points.

Other aspects of STEM will also be encountered, for example the examination of the trains can highlight the engineering that has been included in their creation. Then there is the science – what makes the trains move, how do they move and what drives them? The examples and answers are all there even though the questions may not always be asked straight away.

Will there be Adventures?

Outside of STEM, the Hornby Playtrains system continues to enlighten especially when considering some of the adventures the various characters in the Playtrain characters encounter. The places that the trains travel to are both near and far and will include trips to countries, for example France, Germany and even the USA and while they are there each of the lovable, troublesome characters will find interesting places to see and will share their memorable experiences. But their travels will also take them closer to home as there are plenty of places to visit and explore in Britain?  Maybe it is a trip to see Hadrian’s Wall, or possibly the Tower of London, it could even be Stonehenge. These visits and the people and places they encounter will all be shared in numerous short stories charting the various journeys of the lovable Playtrain characters, with each adventure being posted on the Playtrains portal. However, these stories also have meanings and, in most cases, carry a warm-hearted moral lesson.

With so much to consider Playtrains is not just a fun filled toy train system but also a learning journey of experience, plus entertaining stories containing a message associated with many of life’s lessons.
