L&MR No.57 ‘Lion’ breaks cover

Hornby announces surprise new ‘Lion’ train and rolling stock packs.

PRESS RELEASE
July 5, 2022

Following on from the immensely successful Stephenson’s ‘Rocket’ model and appropriate coach and wagon packs, Hornby are incredibly pleased and proud to introduce the L&MR No. 57 ‘Lion’ locomotive, plus additional rolling stock.

This remarkable DCC compatible model is fairly bristling with incredibly fine detailing as deserving of such an amazing and pioneering locomotive.

The train pack features the exquisitely detailed ‘Lion’ when on operational display at the Liverpool & Manchester Railway Centenary celebrations in September 1930.  At that event ‘Lion’ headed up 6 vehicles; 3 First Class coaches and 3 Standing only 3rd Class carriages which it hauled very successfully around a circular track at the Wavertree Recreation Ground, Liverpool.

The Hornby L&MR 1930 Centenary Train Pack will include ‘Lion’, plus coaches ‘Experience’, ‘Times’ and a 3rd Class carriage.  To replicate the full train a second 1st Class coach and carriage pack will also be available and includes ‘Despatch’, plus two 3rd Class Carriages.

When asked to comment Montana Hoeren, Hornby’s Head of Brand said, ‘This amazing and highly detailed model of ‘Lion’ will without question make a fitting stable mate to Hornby’s Stephenson’s ‘Rocket’ and provides additional locomotive stock for those who wish to model Era 1 and the birth of railways in Britain’.
