Upgrade to the HM7000 Control System

No matter your current set up, Hornby has made upgrading to the new HM7000 Control System easy. Whether you are simply a beginner with a train set or an advanced model railway fan with conventional controls, there are many ways to upgrade to a revolutionary new way to control and operate your model railway.

HM6000 > HM7000

To convert an HM6000 layout to HM7000 control there are just six simple steps that need to be taken:

Step 1: Download the free HM|DCC app onto a suitable smart ‘phone or tablet.

Step 2: Choose a locomotive to operate on DCC and install the appropriate decoder.

Step 3: Link the locomotive to the smart device which has the HM|DC app already installed.

Step 4: Fit DCC clips to all points and remove all non DCC fitted locomotives from the layout.

Step 5: Using the HM|DC app, alter the PWM frequency to ‘Highest’ and slide acceleration control should be moved to full power.

Step 6: Switch to the HM|DCC app and the HM7000 fitted locomotive can now be operated.

HM|DC  > HM7000

As with other connections, the HM7000 app will need to be downloaded onto a preferred smart device. The chosen locomotive or locomotives will each require the fitting of a suitable Hornby Bluetooth® enabled decoder. Power to the track can be via a suitable Hornby 1A, 1.2A or 4A transformer.

To link the transformer to the Hornby Power Track it is necessary to connect an HM7020 Power Supply Adapter Harness between the transformer lead and the track. Once power is connected it is then possible to link the Hornby Bluetooth® enabled locomotives to the smart device and operations can begin.

DCC > HM7000

Already using DCC? Simply download the free HM|DCC app on a selected smart device.

The locomotive(s) must be fitted with a suitable Hornby Bluetooth® enabled decoder and paired with the smart device. Once this process is completed those models can now be controlled using the smart device.

All other locomotives can be controlled using the existing DCC unit only.

Conventional DCC Controller > HM7000

It is possible for all locomotives fitted with either a Hornby HM7000 or conventional decoders to be operated using the HM|DCC Bluetooth® system via a smart device. To do this, an HM7040 Legacy Dongle must be plugged into the RJ12 socket of an existing DCC Base Station, such as can be found on the Hornby ‘Elite’ or ‘Select’.

Having connected the Legacy Dongle, ALL locomotives can be controlled either by a smart device or the Base Station, however only those fitted with an HM7000 type decoder can have their CV settings changed while remaining on the layout. All other models must have their CVs changed in the conventional way.
