Hornby Class 56 goes for a heavy overhaul

The upcoming pair of OO gauge Class 56s, BR Class 56 56001 in British Railways Blue and Transrail Class 56 56047 in Transrail ex-Civil Engineers Grey and Yellow, have been upgraded to feature a much-improved speaker setup, comprised of an EM1 speaker connected to a HM7000-compatible 21-Pin DCC Sound Decoder.

This marks the first time a Hornby OO gauge locomotive has been upgraded in this way, which has been achieved by modifying the internal chassis block to make room for the enlarged speaker chamber.

The Hornby Class 56, which has been in the OO gauge range for over 15 years, previously received a PCB upgrade to 21-pin in 2022. We've now gone a step further to bring this staple item up to modern standards. Utilising the impressive TXS sound file, this pair of grids are sure to make a thunderous impression on your model railway layout.
