How to Enter
Children aged between 4 and 10 years old (via their parent or guardian) are invited to share a video, up to 90 seconds long, on either Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, tagging Hornby and using #HornbyMiniConductors hashtag.
Within the video, they'll need to tell us exactly what they love most about trains and why they think they should be a conductor for the day.
Don't worry if you can't upload to social media - videos can also be submitted below.
The competition will end at midnight on 17th July.

Terms and Conditions
These Terms and Conditions prevail in the event of any conflict or inconsistency with any other communications, including advertising or competition materials. Entry and claim instructions are deemed to form part of the terms and conditions and by participating, all entrants will be deemed to have accepted and be bound by the terms and conditions. Please retain a copy for your information.
Promoter
Promoter: Hornby, Enterprise Road, Westwood Industrial Estate, Margate, England, CT9 4JX.
The parent/guardian of the Winner may be invited to co-operate (and to procure the co-operation of his/her companions who share in the benefits of the prize) with any reasonable requests by the Promoter relating to any post-winning publicity where the parent or legal guardian has provided explicit consent for such publicity. Refusal or withdrawal of consent to publicity will not affect the Eligible Entrant’s participation in the Competition or eligibility to receive a prize. This includes, but is not limited to, national, consumer and regional media across broadcast (TV and Radio), print and online media. The Promoter may (in accordance with its legal obligations) publish the winner’s name and general location (town or county only) where the parent or legal guardian has explicitly consented to such publication, on its website e.g. Mr Smith from London.
By entering, the parent or legal guardian of the Eligible Entrant acknowledges that they may be asked separately to provide explicit consent for participation in media and marketing communications, including the use of images / video of the winners’ entry.
The Competition
Parents and guardians with children aged 4-10 years old at the time of application (“Eligible Entrants”) will have the opportunity to submit their application for their child to win a day as a ‘mini-conductor’ with the team at LNER and be featured in Hornby’s advert. Advert to entail a short video that will feature on owned and earned channels. Explanations telling us exactly what they love most about trains and why they should be Hornby’s mini conductor for the day can be submitted as a short video (max. 1.5 minutes) or a photo via Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, YouTube or a dedicated webpage hosted on the Hornby website at https://uk.hornby.com/playtrains/mini-conductors.
Parents or legal guardians are asked to ensure that submissions do not include unnecessary personal data, including addresses, school names, or other identifying information beyond what is required for the Competition.
One Eligible Entrant will be selected as the Winner and will become the Hornby Mini Conductor.
The Winner will receive prizes as detailed in “The Prize” section of these Terms and Conditions”.
The Competition will run from 00:01 GMT on 17th June until 11:59pm on 17th July 2026.
Eligibility
No purchase is necessary.
To be eligible to enter the Competition, Entrants must be aged between 4 and 10 years old years old on the date of entry. Entrants must also be a resident in the UK and must not be employees or immediate family members of employees of Hornby Hobbies, their agents or anyone professionally connected to this Competition ("Eligible Entrants").
Eligible Entrants and a parent or legal guardian must be available to attend on the photoshoot day between 27th July – 10th August (exact date to be confirmed by the promoter) if their Entry is selected as the winner. Upon selection, the winner will be required to confirm that they are able to attend the Hornby x LNER prize day.
Only entries from individuals will be accepted. Any entries that the Promoter believes have been made (a) via participation in a syndicate, and/or (b) using any robotic, automatic, programmed or similar entry method, will be disqualified from the Competition.
Any Entry that, in the sole opinion of the Promoter, is deemed to be inappropriate for publication is ineligible. Incomplete or illegible entries will be disqualified from the Competition.
By entering the competition, you confirm that your entry video and any accompanying materials and submissions:
do not contain any material which is defamatory of any person, or which is obscene, offensive, hateful or inflammatory.
do not promote sexually explicit material, violence or any illegal activity.
do not promote discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age.
do not infringe any rights of any other person.
are not likely to deceive any person.
are not made in breach of any legal duty owed to a third party, such as a contractual duty or a duty of confidence.
are not threatening, abusive or invade another’s privacy, or cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety.
are not likely to harass, upset, embarrass, alarm or annoy any other person.
are not used to impersonate any person, or to misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person.
do not give the impression that they emanate from Hornby, if this is not the case; do not advocate, promote or assist any unlawful act such as (by way of example only) copyright or trademark infringement or computer misuse.
Hornby reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the competition or if (in Hornby’s opinion) you are in breach of these terms and conditions.
Hornby reserves the right to contact the relevant authorities to report any inappropriate content you submit in connection with the competition or otherwise.
How to enter
Competition entries must be received by Hornby by no later than 11:59pm on 17th July. All competition entries received after that time will not be accepted.
To enter, children (via their parents and guardians) should share the video, up to 90 seconds, on either Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok tagging Hornby and using #HornbyMiniConductor hashtag.
The competition is open to children aged four to ten inclusive. We are unable to accept entries from children that do not meet the criteria.

Within the video, your child needs to tell us what they love most about trains, and why they want to be a Hornby conductor for the day.
You will need to ensure you and your child are available on to attend the prize experience day (between 27th July – 10th August) when the Mini Conductor event on a LNER train will take place.
Exact times will be finalised nearer the time. Failure to be available may result in a further draw and another entrant being chosen. Judges’ decision is final. No alternative prizes or cash equivalents are available.
Privacy settings for the competition entry post have to be set to public, with enabled comment option. If you do not want to do this you can send your video in via the Hornby website.
Only one entry per person. Duplicate entries will not be counted.
The winner will be chosen by a judging panel.
When tagging Hornby, please use the following: Facebook (@HornbyModelRailways), Instagram (@Officialhornby) and TikTok (@Officialhornby).
Eligible Entrants must submit their entries under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian to ensure that they have followed the correct online procedure for submitting their Entry and provided all the required information. Alternatively, a parent or legal guardian may submit the Entry on behalf of the Eligible Entrant.
All entries must be received by the Promoter before the Closing Date. All entries received after the Closing Date will be automatically disqualified from the Competition. The Promoter does not accept responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind.
Winner Selection
Entries will be judged by a panel of three judges including a representative from Hornby Hobbies and two outside persons (the "Judging Panel"). Entries will be judged on (a) the level of understanding of trains and conducting (b) the level of love shown for trains (the "Judging Criteria").
The Promoter will send the full names of the judges to Eligible Entrants (and or their parents or legal guardians) who writes within seven days after the Closing Date of the competition requesting details of the judges, and who enclosed a self-addressed envelope to FAO PR team, Hornby, Enterprise Road, Westwood Industrial Estate, Margate, England, CT9 4JX.
Winner will be contacted directly w/c 20th July to arrange prize details. And must be able to attend the agreed LNER event between 27th July – 10th August.
Winner will be announced publicly w/c 17th August.
The Prize
1 Winner and 4 runners up will be selected to receive prizes as detailed below.
The prize for the Winner will be the nominal title of Hornby’s Mini Conductor 2026, featuring in their advert which will appear on owned or paid channels and in editorial titles (imagery and video taken on the shoot day), a day with the LNER railway team and Playtrains goodies up to the value of £100.
Under the guidance of the LNER team, the winner along with their parents or guardians will also get to experience what it’s really like to be a ‘mini conductor’. This will be between 27th July – 10th August.
The winner will also receive:
Travel, accommodation, food and incidental expenses for the winner will be included, up to the value of £200.
Any costs incurred in addition to the prize listed above are at winner’s own expense.
The prize is non-transferrable, and no cash alternative will be offered. In the event of unforeseen circumstances, the Promoter reserves the right (a) to substitute an alternative prize of equivalent or greater value and (b) in exceptional circumstances to amend or foreclose the promotion without notice. No correspondence will be entered into.
Hornby is not responsible for any loss, claim or expense arising from travel.
The winner and runner-up winners will receive Hornby Playtrains goodies up to the value of £100.

Winner announcement and claiming the prize
Due to the high volume of entries, the winner will be notified directly via their channel of their entry before the end of 24/07/2026. This will either be via a DM on social or email for entries via Hornby website.
It is entrants' responsibility to enable comments under the competition post to allow communication with Hornby in order for us to notify you, if you win the prize.
The winner must claim their prize by providing their details within 3 days of the Promoter sending notification. If the prize is unclaimed after this time, it will lapse, and the Promoter reserves the right to offer the unclaimed prize to a substitute winner selected in accordance with these rules.
Once the winner and runner ups have been contacted and accepted the prize, Hornby will enter correspondence with the winners for the acceptance of the prize and to provide instructions for the prize day.
The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf without first providing Hornby with your prior written consent.
Hornby does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.
The decision of Hornby is final, and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.
In accordance with the Advertising Standards Agency guidelines, Hornby are required to publish the name and county of residence of the winner. By entering the competition, you consent to the publication of this information.
General
All Entries submitted become the property of Hornby and will not be returned. This clause applies to intellectual property rights only and does not affect the Eligible Entrant’s or parent or legal guardian’s rights under data protection law in respect of personal data contained in the Entry.
All Entries are subject to approval by the Promoter. In particular, the Promoter will reject entries which are offensive, abusive, misleading, unethical, discriminating or defaming in nature.
By submitting an Entry, the Eligible Entrant and their parent or legal guardian are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions. Entries must be the sole work of the Eligible Entrant, with appropriate support from their parent / legal guardian. Any plagiarised Entry, or Entry that is not the sole work of the Eligible Entrant, with appropriate support from their parent / legal guardian, will be disqualified from the Competition. Entries must be unique and not have previously been published or received any prize or reward.
All competition entries and any accompanying material submitted to the Promoter will become the property of the Promoter on receipt and will not be returned.
By submitting an Entry and any accompanying material, the Eligible Entrant agrees to assign to the Promoter all intellectual property rights and waive all moral rights in the competition Entry and otherwise arising in connection with the Entry to which the Eligible Entrant may now or any time in the future be entitled. Any assignment of intellectual property rights does not constitute consent to the processing of personal data for publicity or marketing purposes.
Where a parent or legal guardian has provided separate explicit consent, the Promoter, its group companies, agencies, production partners and media partners may use, reproduce, edit, adapt, dub, subtitle, crop, combine with other material, publish, communicate to the public and otherwise exploit all or part of any Entry, and any image, likeness, voice or performance contained in it, for promotional and advertising purposes in connection with Hornby, including in television advertising, video-on-demand (VOD), cinema, online video, social media, digital advertising, owned channels, earned media and other broadcast, streaming, print and online media, for the period and territories specified in that consent.
By entering, the Eligible Entrant and their parent or legal guardian acknowledges that the Entry may be posted on the Promoter's website and on social media, but that the Promoter is not obliged to use, post or display any Entry submitted. Hornby shall have full right and power to copy, publish, broadcast, display, distribute, use, edit, alter, combine with other material, refuse and adapt any or all proportions of entries solely for the purposes of administering the Competition and, where explicit consent has been provided, for agreed promotional purposes.
By entering this Competition, the Eligible Entrant and their parent or legal guardian agrees that, if the Eligible Entrant is the winner of the Competition, the Promoter and its parent company and communications agency may use the Eligible Entrant's name, image and town or county of residence to announce the winner of this Competition only where the parent or legal guardian has provided explicit consent, and only for the purposes and duration specified at the time consent is obtained. It is further agreed that the Eligible Entrant will participate in any reasonable publicity required by the Promoter. This includes, but is not limited to media interviews, on the radio on television, and in print and online media.
If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to disqualify the Eligible Entrant from participating in the Competition.
If any of these clauses should be determined to be illegal, invalid or otherwise unenforceable then it shall be severed and deleted from these terms and conditions and the remaining clauses shall survive and remain in full force and effect.
The Promoter reserves the right to modify these terms and conditions at any time on giving notice via https://uk.hornby.com/playtrains/mini-conductors
The Promoter will use the personal details supplied for the administration of this Competition. Any additional uses, including publicity, marketing or media activity, will be carried out only where separate explicit consent has been obtained. The Eligible Entrant’s personal details will always be kept confidential and in accordance with current Data Protection legislation. The Eligible Entrant or their parent or legal guardian can request access to their personal data, or have any inaccuracies rectified, by sending an email to Competition@hornby.com. By participating in the Competition, the Eligible Entrant (or their parent or legal guardian on their behalf) agrees to the use of their personal data as described here.
Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate any successful participants or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the offer except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Statutory rights are not affected.
If the Promoter considers that there has been a breach of these rules by a participant, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, exclude such participant from participating in the competition.
In the event of circumstances outside the reasonable control of Hornby or otherwise where fraud, abuse and/or an error (human or computer) affects or could affect the proper operation of this offer, and only where circumstances make this unavoidable, Hornby reserves the right to cancel or amend the offer or these terms and conditions, at any stage, but will always endeavour to minimise the effect to participants in order to avoid undue disappointment.
The Promoter's decision is final and binding. No correspondence will be entered into.
If any of these clauses should be determined to be illegal, invalid or otherwise unenforceable then it shall be severed and deleted from these terms and conditions and the remaining clauses shall survive and remain in full force and effect.
These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and you and we agree to only bring legal actions about these terms and conditions in the courts of England and Wales. We will try to solve any disagreements quickly and efficiently. If you are not happy with the way we deal with any disagreement you and we may agree to refer the matter to arbitration, but you and we are not restricted from bringing court proceedings.
Annex A - Fair Processing Notice
This fair processing notice ("Notice") sets out the basis on which we process and protect the Personal Information we collect from you.
TYPES OF PERSONAL INFORMATION WE MAY COLLECT FROM YOU:
"Personal Information" refers to information which does or is capable of identifying you as an individual. The types of Personal Information that we process may include: names, address and postcode as well as media and video content you submit with your entry. We comply with principles of "data minimisation", and only collect the types and volume of Personal Information required to achieve the purposes set out in this Notice.
WHEN WE COLLECT PERSONAL INFORMATION FROM YOU:
We will collect information from you directly when you complete any associated forms to participate in the offer.
To the extent permitted by law, we may also monitor and record telephone calls for training and quality assurance purposes if you call us directly in connection with the offer.
Information about you may also be provided to us indirectly by a family member or any other third person who may be entering into the competition on your behalf.
USE OF PERSONAL INFORMATION
We will use the Personal Information we collect for the purpose of administering the offer. We will also need to use your Personal Information for purposes associated with our legal and regulatory obligations.

Children
If you are under the age of 10, as stipulated in the competition entry, you should not enter the competition unless you have the authorisation of, and are supervised by, a parent or guardian. We will take reasonable steps to verify parental or guardian authorisation, including direct confirmation with the parent or legal guardian, before processing personal data of a child for the Competition. We will provide follow up communication to your parent or guardian stating that you have indicated that their consent has been obtained, asking them to verify that that is indeed the case, and offering them a chance to opt-out if not. Where they have not provided consent, we will remove your entry and Personal Information. If you are a child, please make sure that your parent or guardian reads this Notice.
Parents and guardians should at all times supervise their children's activities, in particular for use of our website. We do not and will not knowingly collect information from any child under the age of 16 without us having been informed that the child's parent or guardian provided consent (other than such information as is necessary in order to obtain parental or guardian consent). Parents and legal guardians may request to review information collected from their children under the age of 16, or exercise any of the rights set out below on the child's behalf as specified in the "Contact Us" section below.
Retention of personal information
Personal Information will not be kept for longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it is processed (which will normally mean at the expiry of the offer and will be retained in accordance with our records management policy). Entries may be retained for audit, legal and agreed promotional purposes for a longer period. In certain cases, laws or regulation require us to keep records for specific periods of time, including for accounting purposes or health and safety compliance. In other cases, records are retained in order to administer the relationship, to fulfil our contractual or statutory obligations or to resolve queries or disputes which arise from time to time.
Disclosure of your personal information
We may share Personal Information with carefully selected third-party service providers acting on our behalf, such as IT hosting providers, competition administration partners, professional advisers, and communications agencies, under appropriate contractual safeguards. We will not use your personal data to send you any marketing communications unless you have personally given written permission or signed up to Hornby communications.

Fees. We will let you know of any charges before completing your request.
Timescales. We aim to respond to any valid requests within one month unless it is particularly complicated or you have made several requests, in which case we aim to respond within three months. We will let you know if we are going to take longer than one month. We might ask you if you can help by telling us what exactly you want to receive or are concerned about. This will help us to action your request more quickly.
Exemptions. Local laws, including in the UK, provide for additional exemptions, in particular to the right of access, whereby personal data can be withheld from you in certain circumstances, for example where it is subject to legal privilege.
