Product Info

Experience the halcyon days of nationalised BR with our replication of the preserved K&WVR Standard 2MT. This Club Exclusive model features fine extensive piping detail, a sliding roof vent on the cab and sprung buffers.

For extra modelling detail, a snow plough is included in the accessory bag for you to attach via the NEM pocket if you wish to do so. Front steps are also included in the accessory bag which will need to be glued in place. Finally, the vivid BR Green livery is a feast for the eyes and captures the preserved locomotive in its entirety.

Designed by R. A. Riddles and derived from Ivatt's LMS 2MT 2-6-0 locomotive design, itself a variation of Ivatt's Class 2 2-6-2T, the BR Standard Class 2 was the smallest of the BR Standards and featured changes to the LMS design such as smaller cabs so that they could be used across the network where loading gauges were less generous.

Darlington Works was responsible for building the entire fleet of 65 engines and for a time construction of the LMS and BR designs overlapped. Like the LMS predecessor, the BR design had a tender cab to enhance crew protection and visibility when running tender-first.

No. 78022 was constructed at Darlington Works and delivered to Millhouses Depot in Sheffield on 28 February 1954. The locomotive remained at the shed until the shed closed in 1962. This versatile engine led a nomadic working life when it was allocated to the following sheds: Doncaster, Stratford (London), March (Cambridgeshire), Barrow, Aintree and finally Lostock Hall (Preston).

Withdrawal from service occurred in February 1967 with the locomotive then being sent to Barry Scrapyard of Woodham Bros. in South Wales. Left to languish at the scrapyard, it wasn’t until 1975 that the Standard 4 Locomotive Society acquired 78022 for preservation on the Worth Valley Railway, now the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (K&WVR). The engine was transported to Haworth Yard on 11 June that year.

18 years later, in 1993, the locomotive was overhauled and faced an extensive restoration back to running order. Following the expiry of the boiler certificate at the end of 2000, the locomotive was placed on static display in the museum at Oxenhope.

In 2015, 78022 moved back to Haworth where the locomotive was stripped to determine the amount of work required. November 2018 saw 78022 returning to service on the K&WVR in a lined-out BR Green livery.
