Welcome to our August edition of Train Terminal, the only Hornby TT:120 update from the Hornby development team.
This month, we have a quick update on the Class 66 project with decoration samples and a first look at the three TOUAX Sffgmss IFA wagons.
Summer is in full swing and it’s the perfect time to start a new project - painting your shed. Check out ours: the Class 66 decoration samples! You can see four of the five Class 66 locomotive decoration samples we are developing below.

After scrutinising the samples, we are delighted with how the liveries have been applied to the models. The DB Schenker No. 66097 has a vivid red livery, and the Colas Rail ‘David Maidment OBE’ has the iconic orange and yellow Colas livery. Meanwhile, the GBRf ‘Evening Star’ is presented in a BR lined Brunswick Green livery which was a homage to the 9F ‘Evening Star’.
The ‘shed’ shape of the cab front has been replicated nicely on the samples. With regards to ‘Evening Star’, the distinctive feature of the bell can be spotted attached to the cab front, giving the model a realistic feel.

Model specifications (also included on the samples) are etched metal windscreen wipers, chassis detailing, separately fitted handrails, metal roof grille, five-pole skew-wound motor, dual flywheels, Next18 DCC decoder socket, space for a speaker, a full lighting package of night and day headlights and cab lighting. The sound fitted (TXS) Class 66 versions are fitted with our HM7000 ready Next 18-pin decoders for instant sound and digital control via the HM|DCC app.
When we tested these decoration samples on the development track, they ran smoothly and were more than capable of hauling our HAA hopper wagons for freight operations.
Please note these are images of our decoration samples and improvements will be made in time for production.
Approval samples are due to arrive in Margate imminently and we should hopefully be able to show you images in the next Train Terminal. Watch this space!

For those asking whether there will be an option to customise the Class 37 headcodes, unfortunately, the answer is no. We investigated customised headcodes as an option but due to the small size of the scale, we deemed this not possible. The headcodes measure at 2½mm tall. The Class 37 models are still in development.
