History :
This locomotive was built by English Electric at its Vulcan Works near Newton-le-Willows, Lancashire, in 1964 and entered traffic on 5th January 1965 as D6954. Renumbered 37254 under TOPS in April 1974, it was eventually named ‘Cardiff Canton’ in recognition of its long association with the depot. Following withdrawal in 1999, it was bought and restored by members of the 37254 Locomotive Group at the Spa Valley Railway.
It was painted in retro InterCity ‘Swallow’ livery and given red ‘Driver Robin Prince M.B.E.’ nameplates in 2013, the condition in which the model is presented. It has since returned to the main line and is currently operational with Colas Rail.
