Class 71 and the D16

Class 71  first running sample

Summer is well underway, and hot doesn’t begin to cover it here in the Hornby workshop. As usual, there’s been lots of excitement and some interesting deliveries turning up in our office, so let’s get right to it.

Last time we teased you with a short video showing what appeared to be an electric locomotive tearing around our test track. Well, given that we clearly can’t put anything past you lot, many of you guessed correctly that it was in fact the Class 71!

We have discussed this highly anticipated loco before in The Engine Shed before, so it really needs no introduction. However we recently received the first running sample and we couldn’t wait to show you. Once we got it out of its packaging after its long trip, the first thing that struck us was the weight, it really is something. It has no issues sticking to the track when going around the curves and it is a quiet and smooth runner. We are sure that you will agree this the Class 71 should really stand out on a layout

Take a look at the video below for a sneak peek of it going round our test track.

More exciting news is that from today we are accepting pre-orders for the Class 71! Now, what was a relatively short lived loco in real life can live forever on you layout at home. Be sure to let us know what you think!

Also this week we’ve received the approval samples of none other than the D16. Yes, yes, we know they have been a while coming, but believe us when we say they will be worth the wait! Here they are on one of our new layouts here at Hornby HQ.

Next time in The Engine Shed

Well that’s about all from us this week here in the Hornby Engine Shed. Drop by in two weeks when we will be handing the reins over to our Product Researcher to give you a closer look at what goes into gathering the most important information our designers need to produce the models - the relationships he has to build in order to gain access to preserved items and records, as well as more information about what we’re sure is many people's dream job!

Until next time happy modelling!
