Hello and welcome to the thirteenth edition of The Engine Shed - doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun? You’ll remember back in May that we showed you the first running sample of the J50 and we really enjoyed hearing your feedback. We were very pleased to read so many positive comments, and that so many people were looking forward to this charming loco.

R3324 LNER 0-6-0T J50 Class

R3325 BR 0-6-0T J50 Class - Early BR
R3326 BR 0-6-0T J50 Class - Late BR
You can read more about the History of the J50 here, but in short the J50 came about due to the need for more powerful locomotives, which were necessary to operate on the steep gradients prevalent on the West Riding lines and saw the introduction of the J51 locomotives. Changes to the size of the J51’s boiler diameter gave rise to the creation of the J50.

All of the J50s are due for delivery in December and are now available to pre-order.
Also this week, we're taking a trip down memory lane to our first ever Engine Shed blog - all those months ago we featured the hand decorated sample of the S15.

Well, now we’ve just received the final signed sample of BR 4-6-0 Maunsell S15 Class - Late BR - R3329! Expected for delivery VERY soon, we couldn’t wait to show you this video of it running around our brand new layout here at Hornby HQ.
Well that about does it for this week. Tune in again in the coming weeks when we’ve got a whole arsenal of samples and announcements coming your way!
As always, let us know what you think of the J50 decoration samples and the S15 video on the Engine Shed forum and on Facebook and Twitter with #HornbyEngineShed - will they be joining your collection? Also, tell us what else you’d like to see covered in our fortnightly blog.
Until next time, happy modelling!
