BUNDLEH1 The Staycation Express Train Pack - Web Exclusive
Product Info
Bundle Expected: November 2022*
In an attempt to revitalise the home-grown tourist industry in a post-lockdown Britain, Rail Charter Services have introduced their new 'Staycation Express' service in the northwest. Making three return trips between Skipton in West Yorkshire and Appleby in Cumbria, the 'Staycation Express' provides passengers with spectacular views of the Yorkshire Dales, traveling over the famous Settle and Carlisle Railway. The service ran every day, except Sundays, allowing holidaymakers plenty of flexibility for a trip.
The train consisted of two iconic Class 47 locomotives and a set of Mk3 and Mk2 coaches.
As an exclusive item, the train is now available to customers via Hornby.com only. Once assembled, the train includes a DCC Sound fitted loco, a second motorised loco, and 5 coaches in the authentic livery.

RailRoad BR, Class 47, Co-Co, 47593 ‘Galloway Princess’ – Era 7
Product code: R30080
Built between 1962 and 1968, the Class 47 Co-Co Diesel-Electric locomotive was once the most numerous class of mainline diesel in Britain with 512 examples. 310 locomotives were constructed by Brush in Loughborough, and the remaining 202 at Crewe. The locomotives were used for passenger and freight operations.
In 2020, 24 of the class remain operational on the national network with more in storage and an additional 31 preserved. Locomotive 47593 entered service in November 1965, running under the pre-TOPS number D1973. The advent of TOPS classification resulted in the locomotive receiving the number 47272 which it kept until 1983 when it was first named 'Galloway Princess' and re-numbered 47593. The locomotive's name plates were removed in 1994 followed by being re-numbered to 47790.
In the summer of 2020, now under LSL ownership and having regained the Galloway Princess name, the locomotive operated many of the Rail Charter Services first class Skipton to Appleby return services on the Settle to Carlisle line.

RCS, Mk3 First Open, 11076 Coach A - Era 11
Product code: R40182
In-order to allow running at 125 mph on Britain's Victorian era railways, new rolling stock was needed by British Railways. Significant improvements over the Mk2 included new secondary air suspension between the bogies and the coach body as well as aerodynamic skirting on the underframe. Mk3 coaches are 75ft (23m) long enabling far greater capacity than older coaches. Mk3 coaches also incorporate disk breaks and wheel slip protection enabling faster deceleration. The first Mk3 coaches to be delivered were used as part of the HST prototype along with the two Class 41 diesel power cars in 1972.
Mk3 coaches entered service in 1975 along with the Class 43 forming the iconic InterCity 125 trainset. After the HST Mk3 coach variant was introduced, further Mk3 coaches were introduced to the West Coast Mainline for use as part of locomotive hauled trains. Whilst Mk3 stock is standard for HST units, the standard locomotive hauled stock is Mk3a. Mk3a stock differs from Mk3 stock due to the inclusion of buffers as well as a different electrical system that uses motor generator units in each coach to power air conditioning and other ancillaries Mk3a stock was built until 1984, before 3B stock with improved seating and lighting was built from 1985 to 1988.
In the summer of 2020 Rail Charter Services ran regular trips between Skipton and Appleby on the Settle to Carlisle railway. The trains were formed of four first class ex-Greater Anglia Mk3 coaches along with a single Mk2 BSO.

RCS, Mk2d, Crew Coach, 17159 - Era 11
Product code: R40183
The Mark 2 coach was introduced to the British railway in 1964. Mk2 coaches were designed to be stringer and more resistant to corrosion than their predecessors whilst reducing maintenance costs. A revised painting method coincided with a switch from BR maroon and Southern Region dark green to a blue and grey livery. 1876 Mk2 coaches were produced by BREL at Derby Litchurch Lane Works between 1963 and 1975, with many remaining in service performing departmental work and charter services. Mk2 coaches were also widely exported and remain in mainline service in New Zealand as of 2020.
Coaches and multiple units based upon the Mk2 design have also operated in Ireland, Taiwan and Kenya. The Mk2d coach design was the fifth standard variation of the Mk2. The design incorporated electric heating, air conditioning and tinted windows. As a result of the pressure ventilation air-conditioning system the coaches did not feature opening windows. The Mk2d FK and BFK coaches were the last locomotive hauled non-sleeping coach designs to feature a side corridor and seating compartments. The design was used for coaches built in 1971 to 1972.
In the summer of 2020 Rail Charter Services ran regular trips between Skipton and Appleby on the Settle to Carlisle railway. The trains were formed of four first class ex-Greater Anglia Mk3 coaches along with a single Mk2d coach used by the crew.
